Lucie (van den Bos; Van Breen) Brantenaar passed on October 2, 2024 in Pleasanton, CA. Born on March 10, 1930 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, she moved to California with her family in 1939. She graduated San Jose High School in 1948 and kept close touch with her classmates. She lived in Palo Alto, Milpitas and the Berryessa neighborhood of San Jose where she raised her family with her husband, AJ (Bob) Van Breen, and worked as a school secretary for many years.

In 1978, she married ADJ (Tonny) Brantenaar moved back to the Netherlands. They lived there for 7 years before returning to San Jose to live in Evergreen’s The Villages community. They spent over two decades in their home entertaining friends and family.

After Tonny’s passing, Lucie moved to Stoneridge Creek retirement community in Pleasanton where she quickly made many friends and continued her participation in the local PEO chapter. She resided there until her passing.

Lucie is survived by her daughters Lucie Mewes (Port Orchard, WA) and Melissa Kiland (Jon, Castro Valley) and her son Jack (Dee, Santa Cruz) and Ralph, Jeske, Tom and Jaap Brantenaar in the Netherlands. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren who fondly called her Gigi.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 8, 2025 at the Palomares Hills Clubhouse at 6811 Villareal Dr., Castro Valley, CA. Gathering will begin at 10:30, program to begin at 11:00 am. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to PEO International or KQED television.
