Paul Richard Hilleman

Paul Richard (Dick) Hilleman III died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, August 17th, 2024, a few days after celebrating his 93rd birthday.

He was born August 8,1931 in Pittsburgh, PA. His family moved to Curwensville, PA when he was young where he graduated from high school in 1949. He was active in many sports and treasured his friends and time spent hunting and working with his father on their model trains.

He joined the Army and served during the Korean War at the rank of Sergeant First Class. Shortly after returning home to Curwensville, he married his wife of 65 years, Elaine Confer from Clearfield, PA.

He began a successful career in the brick refractory business and held various supervision and management positions including stints for Harbison Walker in Clearfield, PA and for Kaiser Refractories in Missouri, Argentina, California, Toronto and Ohio.

He spent his retirement in Danville, CA but always cherished his friends, family and memories from Pennsylvania. He attended several high school class reunions, family weddings, and special events, such as the family communal baptism of his grandchildren at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Clearfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Hilleman Sr. and Ann Pechstein, and his wife Elaine.

Surviving are his sister, Barbara Derrick of Cardiff, CA; his daughter, Leslie Anne Hilleman of Golden, Colo.; and his son, Lee Scott Hilleman and his wife Betsy of Sedalia, Colo. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Josh Hilleman of West Palm Beach, Fla., Jon Hilleman of Summerville, S.C., Leah Hilleman of Salida, CO; and his nephew David Derrick and his wife Nai and their two children Chance and Roxi of Cardiff, CA.

Memorial service
Dick will be laid to rest at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Curwensville. A private service will be held by the family.
