Sandra Manifesto
April 27, 1948-Oct. 3, 2024
Dublin, California

“Super” Sandy Manifesto (Barstad) made her final transition at 5:15pm on October 3rd, 2024, succumbing to a 13 year battle with Frontotemporal Dementia. Surrounded by her loved ones she passed peacefully in Dublin, California at the age of 76.

Sandy was born on April 27th, 1948, in Oakland, California, to Omar and Margie Barstad (Heier). Sandy started dancing and acrobats at the age 5 and shifted into roller-skating at age 13. She won four National Titles with many local and state titles. She attended James Monroe Middle School, John Muir Jr. High, Pacific High School, and obtained a 2 year AA in Secretarial at Chabot College.

She started work in 1968 at the Alameda County Probation Department as a stenographer II from 1968-1977. During her work career, she married the love of her life, Joe M. Manifesto, of San Leandro. The High School sweethearts married on January 30th, 1971 at St. John’s Church. She loved water/snow skiing, biking, dancing, and roller skating (obviously). Sandy and Joe moved to Castro Valley in 1976 where they started to build their family, beginning with their son, Joe, in 1977 and then daughter, Michelle, in 1979. Sandy left her job to pursue her new passion as a dedicated mother and wife. She was an amazing mother and bent over backwards making sure the children were taken care of, from attending school events, taking Joe and Michelle to sports activities, dance, singing lessons, and more. She was the biggest fan to her two children and was always on the side lines or in the audience cheering and rooting them on. Sandy was passionate about getting things done right, from the little things of ironing clothes to planning extravagant parties at her home. She was always making sure there was breakfast, lunch, and dinner ready while still keeping the house in perfect order. She was truly one of the greats with a huge heart and always taking care of others before herself.

Sandy loved to travel, with adventures in Mexico, Europe, Germany, New York, Hawaii, and her best-loved spot was visiting her favorite mouse at Disneyland/Disneyworld. She saw so many beautiful places, but her heart always came back to her husband and two loving children. As her children became more independent, Sandy went back to work and became the attendance secretary at Bishop O’Dowd High School in 1994. After 17 years of work, she retired at age 62 and moved with her husband to Dublin in 2012 to be closer to her children and their growing families.
