Lasting Memories

Hannah Annette Zarubin
Dec. 16, 1994-Oct. 2, 2025
Pleasanton, California

Hannah Annette Zarubin entered peacefully into eternity on October 2, 2025 in the presence of her loved ones. She was born to Dave and Sondra Zarubin on December 16, 1994 in Redwood City, California, and spent much of her life as a resident of Pleasanton, California where she was raised alongside her siblings, Jackson Zarubin and Sasha Johnson.

Hannah grew up in princess dresses, adventuring on family camping trips, building insect farms in the dirt, breeding rabbits and chickens with 4-H, eating jelly beans, laughing with friends, and spending as much time as she could with her immediate and extended family.

After high school, Hannah attended college down the coast at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and was awarded her teaching credential in 2018. She enjoyed several years of teaching first grade at Dublin Elementary (go sharks!). Hannah died nearly four years after being diagnosed with cancer. Despite her illness, and to the amazement of all, she taught first grade for three of those last four years. Her students and colleagues meant an enormous amount to her, and she relished her years as an educator. She was never short of hilarious or meaningful school stories, and she was determined to continue to invest into her students for as long as possible. She only accepted taking a medical leave of absence this summer.

After falling in love with County Down following high school, Hannah chose to spend her summers in Northern Ireland through college and into her mid 20’s. She continued to visit regularly and took her last trip this July. There she was blessed with deep friendships that remained throughout the rest of her life. She would say that the people in this corner of the world were family. Northern Ireland was a “thin place” where she felt loved by, and connected to God. Her time volunteering and working at RiOT in Northern Ireland provided some of the most fulfilling work of her life.

Hannah spent the last decade of her life traveling throughout Europe on a regular basis, going to any concert she could, curating a Bay Area “best pizza list”, cuddling her dogs Nellie and Scout, and investing in friends and family.

Hannah will always be known for her generosity, tenacity, love of fun, honest faith in God, elegance and edginess, ability to laugh at herself, kindness, conviction to stand up for the underdog, colorful sweat suits, devotion to Taco Bell and Tony’s pizza, and love for her friends and family. She leaves behind her parents, Dave and Sondra, her brother Jackson, sister in law Courtney, sister Sasha, and brother in law Russ. She also leaves behind her niece and nephews, Ezra, Kinsley, Sammy, and Josiah, who she loved and doted on, even picking them up and playing with them until her final few days. They will always remember Hannah as “Auntie”.

Hannah is preceded in death by her grandparents, Travis Jackson, Rhoda Jackson, Peter Zarubin, and Irene Bloom.

Hannah clung to her faith beautifully as she prepared to say goodbye. Though the pain of loss is close to unbearable, we cling to the hope that Hannah is finally resting in paradise, and we will one day be together again in the home of the living God.
