Lasting Memories
Janice Chapman Treuhaft
May 25, 1936-Nov. 18, 2024
Pleasanton, California
Janice Chapman Treuhaft, who was born May 25, 1936 in Bluewater, NM, passed away unexpectedly Monday, November 18, 2024 in Pleasanton, CA at the age of 88. Janice was a loving mother of 6 children, 25 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was a kind, caring and cherished neighbor and friend and loved by all.
Janice found her sweetheart and husband, Robert Eugene Treuhaft in 1956 in Southgate, California. "Bob" lived next door to her twin friends Meryl and Myrna and she asked him to take her for a ride in the sky (knowing he had his pilot's license). The following year they were married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles Temple and spent the next 44 years together raising their six children, serving tirelessly in their many church callings, supporting and attending school and sports activities along with traveling around the country visiting their extended family until Bob passed away in 2001.
Janice was a dedicated "Scout Mom" and was determined that each of her sons would become Eagle Scouts, which they did. She wanted this accomplishment for them, not for herself, to prepare them to be the best they could be. She also taught her only daughter the love of creating through sewing, cooking and in taking music lessons, encouraging her to develop her talents and share them with others. A love which her daughter treasures to this day.
Janice loved to read and could always be found marking passages in The Reader's Digest along with church periodicals and scriptures. She was never without something to read and share. She relished cards that were sent to her and never forgot to send cards for every occasion to her children and grandchildren whom she adored. Ironically, she never sent nor read an email in her life but relied solely on the good old fashioned USPS to bring her wishes to others. No occasion ever passed without a card from her.
Being a teacher in the primary or nursery at church was her joy. She loved sharing that joy through stories, lessons and creations. Every Christmas she created ornaments by hand for everyone. She worked fervently creating annual ornaments, stopping only briefly to fluff up a meowing cat or run off to her tai chi class. Even when she passed there was a Santa ornament in process on her sewing machine, with several made and more being cut out, spread all over her bed. Tirelessly serving was her true calling in life and she was happiest when serving others.
Her beautiful spirit will be greatly missed by her family and all those who knew her. Janice was preceded in death by her husband Robert "Bob" Treuhaft, her parents, Hyrum Ellsworth Chapman and Katherine Burk Chapman and grand-daughter Ginger Chelle Abbott. She is survived by all six of her children, Mark, Neil, Kili, Loyd, Erik and Dean, 24 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren who are spread throughout the country from coast-to-coast.
A memorial service will be held at 9:00am on Friday, December 6, 2024 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pleasanton, CA with the interment immediately following at Los Gatos Memorial Park, Los Gatos, CA where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband.
